Statement on Support for All Members of our Community

From the Standing Committee on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) and Jeff Frieden, Chair of the Government Department……

Dear Gov community members,

Since the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, anti-Asian racism has spiked in the U.S., with verbal and physical assaults on members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. In the most painful way, the killing of eight people in Atlanta last week – six of whom were of Asian descent and seven of whom were women – has brought renewed attention to the deep discrimination, harassment, threats and violence that members of the AAPI communities endure in this country.

We write to affirm our support for all community members, and particularly those who are Asian or of Asian descent, who may feel especially vulnerable or hurt in this terrible time. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any or all of us for any reason. We welcome suggestions for how we can best offer support to you.

In solidarity,

Melani Cammett, Chair, Standing Committee on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)

Stephen Chaudoin, Member, Standing Committee on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)

Jeff Frieden, Chair, Government Department
