Formal Theory

Formal Theory at Harvard University uses mathematical models to represent strategic choices in political contexts including:

  • Elections
  • Legislative policymaking
  • International politics

Some models produce empirical implications, or even testable hypotheses, which can be analyzed using statistical methods. Others are intended to produce insights into real-world politics by highlighting relevant incentives or mechanisms.
